Ipad works with flash???

HOWEVER, there are quite a few sites that Flash videos do not work. Notably any major network's site (FOX, ABC, NBC, CBS) all have episodes of your favorite TV shows that are flash-based but don't work with Safari on the iPad. Though I haven't tried Skyfire and it's claims to play "most" flash videos, it's a bit promising that we can at least see some flash videos, no? I definitely was hesitant to get the iPad when I found out it didn't support flash, but the fact is that flash videos can and do work!

Good Luck!

No, Flash videos do not work. If you are seeing a video on a website when browsing with your iPad it is because the website has correctly determined that you are using a non-Flash compatible device and it is serving the video in another format (like HTML5). So, the more correct response would be that some websites that use Flash content also supply that same media in other formats as well. If you are seeing a video on your iPad, unless you are using a special browser like Skyfire then you are not seeing Flash video.

This makes sense. A lot of sense, actually. Thanks!

Yeah it's prob a good thing not to have flash like stated a ZILLION times. It dose not necessarily hinder my experience with my iPad. All I will say is when android first gained the power to do flash I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. Yeah bat dies faster, just like when you play a game heavy on iPad ie. Infinity blade kills my bat. And my nexus one never overheated using flash maybe when it's charging and using flash I could see that. (sub 1ghz phones might def overheat) But once flash is there there is no corner of the Internet you can't go too. It's the full experience of the web. The reason i see flash NOT being a big problem on iPad because there are many of other ways to get media on there apps/formatting and putting it on there yourself.

I would love flash on there natively but for now sky fire does all the heavy lifting that it can do for those flash hungry people. Or use a full fledge desktop/laptop if needed.

Just kill me. Kill me now.. Beat me to death with one of these over priced (and/or) under spec'ed "wonder" andriod devices which can play flash (unless you buy a motorola zoom in which case you'll need get your 3G subscription before you can use even your OWN wifi if BestBuy is to be believed) and If it doesn't fall to bits first.

The Xoom is expensive, but it was expected to be expensive from the beginning. Anyone who speculated a cheaper price was dreaming. Its specifications are MUCH better than the comparable $720 iPad in every way. Besides, you are basing your entire opinion of the newest generation of Honeycomb tablets on the price of the first one to market?

Oh and that policy about getting a 3G data plan to activate Wi-Fi, yes I agree it's stupid, it's just a way that the cell phone company can get a little money out of the deal as well. But you only have to pay one month and then never again. I don't think that policy will hold up though for long.

Fall to bits? Even the cheapest China made knockoff tablets don't simply fall to bits.

Give it a couple months, let the companies who aren't tied to cell phone providers release their tablets, they will be cheaper. Also the Wi - Fi only Xoom should be coming along soon anyways.

The question is whether or not the iPad would support flash. It does not, so let's stop beating the dead horse. Other tablets that would do flash without problems, are not on the market yet, despite the hype. That leaves a netbook, or a MacBook Air as the most likely ways to go. The MBA has built in wifi and is a more powerful machine than most netbooks. It is lightwweight and should hold up well. If 3G is needed, a dongle can be added with a service plan from any carrier, which may be a plus in some cases.

Hey Vishnu welcome. I'll answer your question out of experience. And just to give you a little advice, when you come into these forums, try not to say the "F" word. No, I don't mean "F*#@". "FLASH". So far you haven't received a straight answer on whether or not Flash videos will work on the iPad. From my experience, most of the sites with Flash videos I go to watch online from my PC (CNN, Globoesporte, YOUPORN, etc LOL) all run on flash-based videos. You can see that by right-clicking on the video and can clearly see that it's a FLASH video. However, I don't know if the site did anything special (and maybe an expert can respond about this) but when I browse to those sites using Safari on my iPad, I get the "play" button on top of the video, and hence it works! In fact, I appreciate the iPad much more now because it does play Flash videos (from what I understand) using its built-in Youtube player without any annoying ads, specially from the CNN site. You'll notice that if you go to CNN and play one of their videos, it's the same interface of the Youtube app. I don't know if that makes any sense to you but if you go to an Apple store and fondle one of these wonderful devices, you will see that you can play some Flash videos.

These sites where you report that Flash videos works are sensing that you are running Safari on an iPad and send you the video in another compatible format acceptable to the iPad. But only sophisticated websites have that capability, and those that think that the iOS customers are worth it.

If you want to get technical, there are a couple tablets on the market right now that run Flash just fine. Neither of them are big names though, so you don't hear much about them. The Adam and the Viewsonic G-Tablet run Flash well.

The MWC is this weekend, we should get more info on a few more tablets coming out. Despite my dislike for my ipad, I am genuinely excited to hear official word and specs on the iPad 2, so I hope Apple says something soon.

I have to say I want flash, most on here know I want flash lol that being said, I dont care if it runs the battery down or not, but I have played with a few of the other tabs on the market and yes flash works great, but there is such a lag using them that I wouldnt give up the ipad for it.

HTML 5 is what works on iPad as well as another ,it's up to the web page developers to come up to date without using flash,it's old and quite a big program,it will happen one day.

So, after doing some research on the topic, I have to admit that I was wrong about Flash video support. But to the common person's understanding it "appears" to work when it actually isn't Flash, it's HTML5.
So there :P lol

Well there ya have it.

Flash is a security hole and it does kill your battery. Flash is dying very slowly because tablets are becoming popular and most flash needs a mouse and keyboard. Not a touch screen. HTML 5 is coming on strong. It would have been nice for apple to include a way to watch flash videos like skyfire browser allows.

Pretty much This.

Yeah, it's coming on so strong we only have 10 years and 39 days until the standard is finalized. Feels like it's right around the corner .. lol.
