iPads and China

Dear iPad Community:
We are happy to have a forum such as this to reach out to iPad users. We are a big Apple family (2 iPhones, 2 iMacs, 1 MacBook and 2 iPods).

We are traveling to China in the near future and are trying to decide whether to purchase an iPad or MacBook Air to take with us as the MacBook will be too heavy to cart around. The main intent is to keep in contact with home, elderly parents etc., and be able to upload / edit our photos. Our travels will take us to Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, Guilin, Yangtsee and Lee river, Hong Kong and a few other places.

We are concerned about service capabilities, ability and cost to operate, weight (do we need addition devices, cables, connectors, etc), security (don't want a new device stolen or appropriated by authorities), and general functionality.

Any commentary you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so very much,

Hi there and welcome.

Well I have both an iPad and a MacBook Air and I can recommend them both as the are both light weight and very portable however, you will get considerably more battery life out of an iPad so if that is important for you it may be the way to go.

There is lots of good advice and info on here plus plenty of members all too willing to help with any problems.

Remember, search is your friend.......and please don't forget to read the rules http://www.ipadforums.net/forum-rules-help-info/2119-forum-rules-everybody-please-read.html & hacking section rules for all you jail breakers (and would be jail breakers) http://www.ipadforums.net/ipad-hacking/2892-hacking-section-rules-please-read.html

We also have an app for this forum. A link to download the app is: Discussion Forum for iPad Users for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad on the iTunes App Store

Good to hear from you. You’ll find a whole bunch of iPad enthusiasts in this Forum who are only too willing to help other iPad owners and to hear of their experiences. Don’t be afraid to post any questions you may have or use the ‘Search’ button near the top of the Forum web page. I usually find I discover one new interesting and useful piece of information about my iPad every day - and often not even what I was looking for!!

Hope to hear from you soon with your thoughts about the iPad.

Have fun and enjoy your iPad

If you don’t already have it you can download a copy of the iPad manual for free.

Please read the rules too!!

You will have no more trouble traveling in China with your MacBook Air and iPad than you would in any other country.

I travel to China every month with a laptop and iPad and there are no issues.

Be sure to get the plug adapters you will need for your power supplies, but other than that you can expect things to work just fine.
