I purchase/rent purely on price and availability. I purchase/rent movies in HD and TV shows in SD.
Most content cost the same on both services. Therefore, I purchased iTunes content so that it would be available on my iPad I've purchased a few Amazon movies and TV shows on sale though.
Today, the new VOD app gives Amazon the edge because (1) Amazon Prime and (2) stream (not just download) all purchased content. Many of the iTunes stuff has to be downloaded and isn't available for streaming using my ATV.
