What's new

I've heard 4.3.4 to be released in few days, make sure you JB now!

What I'd do is:

1) Restore the iPad back to stock (using DFU mode and then restore w/iTunes)
2) Upgrade the iOS to 4.3.3
3) Use JailbreakMe 3.0 to jailbreak it

I say that because, technically, the 4.3 jailbreak is unsupported and the better, supported one is for iOS 4.3.3.

But, yeah, staying where you are or going to 4.3.3 are your only options... Still, save your SHSH blobs. You never know when/if someone will figure out a way that 3G/CDMA iPads can use them...

if u r already jb on 4.3 and blob is saved, and you need to restore for whatever reason, wouldn't you just download 4.3 or 4.3.3 restore file, then jailbreak it and still remain jailbroken even if 4.3.4 is released? just don't upgrade right?

That's fine for iPad1 and iPad2 WIFI only owners, but iPad2 3G / CDMA users cannot use their blobs yet, so they will be stuck and if they have to restore it will force them onto 4.3.4. We need a new workable bootloader exploit before iPad2 3G/CDMA users can use their blobs.

this is not good for my ipad2 3g. really hoping for this bootloader exploit.

Am a bit lost on the blobs stories.

I jailbroke my iPad 2 wifi without saving anything. Does it still make sense to save the blobs or am I too late now?

Yes, it is always a good idea to save SHSH blobs, whether you jail break or not. And, it doesn't matter if you have already done the jail break; saving SHSH blobs is a different thing. You can only save 4.3.3 for now (and some iOS 5 betas), but it's a good habit to get into...

For more on SHSH blobs, please see this: http://www.ipadforums.net/ipad-hacking/24323-shsh-blobs-frequently-asked-questions.html

It'll give all the information you'll need for the future...

I think I know the answer already, but I jailbroke my iPad 2 (just got a replacement) and Cydia has "SHSH: 4.3.3" at the top. I know this generally means that Cydia has my blobs, but I didn't use TinyUmbrella or see a "Make my life easier" button in Cydia. Does it save your blobs automatically now?

Yes, the Cydia solution was the original and best IMHO. TU is for the paranoid who want the blobs on their PC ;) Cydia has your blobs. Be thankful and rejoice!

That's right. But, there really is no prep to do for this JB. The other stuff is just good practice.

You should save your 4.3.3 blobs now, but you don't have to in order to prepare. You can save them after if you like, but you must save them before Apple releases 4.3.4, because then it will be too late.

Also, there is no RUSH to jailbreak if you don't want to. Just DONT update to 4.3.4 if iTunes offers it to you. As long as you stay on 4.3.3 you can jailbreak any time you want. You don't HAVE to do it before 4.3.4 is out...

Hope that clarifies...

Couldn't have said it any better! As long as one doesn't update to 4.3.4 and keeps their current 4.3.3 blobs, you are safe. Btw, aren't the blobs already saved onto Cydia's server. After one uses Jailbreakme 3.0, within Cydia it'll say 4.3.3 SHSH? And even if someone were to crash their IPad 2, can one not use a custom firmware 4.3.3 (block the "host" file) and restore since Cydia will very that your machine once was JB'roken?

Cheers!

Yes, this is true, but ONLY for those with WiFi only iPad2s. For those with 3G/CDMA iPad2s, there is no current way to use SHSH blobs to downgrade to 4.3.3.

Once Apple has stopped signing the jail broken 4.3.3, if someone owns a 3G/CDMA iPad2, they MUST be very careful not to put the iPad2 into a situation where they'll have to restore it.

Because they'll be stuck with having to restore with Apple's updated iOS version ... which will not be jail broken (at this time).

This does not negate the need to save SHSH blobs for any iPad2 owner, 3G/CDMA or not - you never know what the tweakers will figure out to get around this...

Would this really make a difference for those (like myself) that have a 3G IPad 2 but find that I'll never put a GSM sim into them? I use the wifi feature only and tether through my IPhone 4 for Internet abroad! Will this still make a difference?

No matter what your setup, you won't be able to use 4.3.3 blobs on a CDMA / GSM iPad2 to restore once 4.3.4 is out until a method is discovered to get round Apples new security on that device. No exceptions. Sorry.

Forgive my ignorance but does this mean I won't be able to restore my 4.3.3 with a custom firmware once the 4.3.4 is out? Hmm, that's really interesting to know!

Yes, that's exactly what it means.

Whether we use TinyUmbrella or Cydia's automatic saves for our blobs, if/when we need to use them, TinyUmbrella is the only app that can utilize them for a restore?

No. You don't have to use TU. You can point iTunes to Cydia instead. TU is just easier for some than manually editing your hosts file...
