Spare your precious iPad space and go with the office in the cloud app CloudOn.

Microsoft Office won't run on the iPad (though you can access it remotely through CloudOn - *if* you have a fast, reliable internet connection and don't mind the lag still inherent in the process).

What are you planning to use it for? Word processing, spreadsheets, or presentations? You may be better off looking for an app that focus specifically on a particular type of document than a general office suite, depending in your needs.
