hi, all! Just registered and look forward to learning more about my iPad & iPhone from you who are long time Apple users. All my experience is with PCs. I've had an iPad for about a year and a half and an iPhone 3GS for about a year--really like them but much to learn. Stumbled across this forum while researching whether or not I can charge these devices on a visit to South Africa where the electric is 230V and 50hz.

Anyone with experience abroad?

No experience abroad - but welcome! I also stumbled upon this forum when I googled a question.. Forget the question now! But I never looked back.

Hi!
I bought my iPad2 in Portland a couple of month ago, when I was there for a visit - I live and work and play around with my iPad here in Germany....
Actually I did not even both to think about the difference in the power supply, as nowadays all this kind of gadget chargers are multi-voltage - this way they only produce one charger for their worldwide sales.
The only thing I actually needed was something to fit it into the power plug of my house, but there are adaptors to change the plugs of the charger (or power supply) itself - this I bought as I would stay here possibly longer ;o)

Travel adaptor- set in any electric supply store available.

South Africa is great- where and how long are you going to be there?

Good to hear from you. You’ll find a whole bunch of iPad enthusiasts in this Forum who are only too willing to help other iPad owners and to hear of their experiences. Don’t be afraid to post any questions you may have or use the ‘Search’ button near the top of the Forum web page. I usually find I discover one new interesting and useful piece of information about my iPad every day - and often not even what I was looking for!!

Hope to hear from you soon with your thoughts about the iPad.

Have fun and enjoy your iPad

If you don’t already have it you can download a copy of the iPad manual for free.

thanks!

thanks to everyone who has replied to my initial "howdy" and question re traveling abroad. I now have found that different voltages are no problem--only need a plug adapter. Intend to be in Cape Town working with a missionary and all my Bibles and study books are--you guessed it--in one slim package!

Blessings to you all,
