I don't think laws are exactly the same in every country. If it's possible in Canada, it can be vandalism in another country. On the other hand, we could all come to your place and redesign the streets near you. :D

As long as you check with the lot owner ahead of time it should be all right.
 
In the UK you'd no doubt be held on charges of graffiti or the the defacing of government properties , saying that we did have an incident here a short time ago where a child had received stern warnings from some jobsworth after she and her friends drew a hopscotch grid on a pavement !!!!!
