So I was going to get an iPad 1 at a VERY good price, an Apple Rep even thought this would be a good test to see if I even needed the iPad 2 speed (14 days to try as few are buying the 1). However, apparently Apple has pulled iPad 1 stock from their retail stores. Anyone else heard of this as I thought it was weird?

What will they do with the iPad1s they've pulled back? I can't see they can use them for anything other than warranty replacements for iPad1s returned for repair.

iPad 1's aren't being produced anymore, so when Apple runs out, they just have to stop selling them. But you can still buy refurbished iPad 1's.
Just go to
apple.com->Store->Refurbished iPad(it is hidden in the left bottom corner)

I got the impression that he was suggesting that this wasn't simply a question of running out of stock, rather this was a case of Apple actively removing new iPad1s from their stores.

Wow, supplies are that low on iPad 1s that they are centralizing the remaining stock for online order? (my guess)

Sounds like Apple produced just enough then. ;)

Well strike that though then. Ninja'd by Tim XD

Agree. I just had a store that was going to price-match an iPad 1 64GB to at&t and the price was awesome. They did not want to match but I have a store credit and my next step was to do whatever I could to get my $$ back and go to at&t to buy it.. they were being smart and keeping the $$ in the store IMO. Now apparently this option is gone. We'll see as I have four Apple Stores near me so I may try again today.

Thinking back to my old Supply Chain days this makes perfect sense.

Yep :D. Actually I've been checking the tracking number and it's sitting at the local distribution center. I asked for them to hold it at a local shop. I'll be checking it all day and see if it gets there for pickup a day early :P. I'll be adding to "official owners" thread when I have it.

Just in time to. The lunchtime volume has been steadily increasing. So I'ma hook it up the cafeteria projector and display one if volume meter apps I found a while ago for my iPod. I've done it before in a more round-about way but the iPad makes a nice all-in-one for tormenting children with facts. (Yes children, you are as loud as jet engine at idle)
