Mail page has gone blank

Help! All of a sudden when I try to open my email -the page is completely blank. It's like it is frozen. Also I went to the settings page and it seems frozen too. What can I do?

1.Quit the app, double press home, hold the app icon in the tray and press the x thing. Now press the icon in the home screen. (I know this is obvious but I don't know how much you know)
2. Press home and lock until the Apple logo appears on the screen. Now do procedure 1. if you haven't done so.
