Mail using 3gB storage

I was trying to find the size of a video file on my iPad2. One suggestion was to try to send it as an email which would show the size. I tried this, but it didn't work. Now though, I notice my mail shows it's using over 3gB of storage. I guess it's this video file somewhere. I have deleted the mail account (sky), turned iPad on and off, deleted the video from photos and recently deleted, but mail still shows this 3gB of storage used.

Any ideas how I can get this storage back. I'm on ios 9.2.1

Back up your iPad through iTunes, then restore your iPad. The storage used by the mail app should now reflect the proper amount.

After 48hrs trying to restore it this week after updating to ios9.2.1 which involved refreshing my pc, loading new itunes and encountering numerous problems, I really don't have the confidence in apples ipad backup and restore to try this. I just get the feeling I'll end up with a useless ipad.
