Did you try force closing the app, and resetting your iPad?
While it's not recommended to force close apps on a regular basis, it can help when an app misbehaves. To force close, double tap the Home button and slide the thumbnail above or below the app icon (depending on your iOS) towards the top of the screen.
To reset, press and hold Home and Power button simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. As soon as you see it, let go of both. Your iPad will power up on it's own. This won't change settings or remove data, but it might help with your problem.
