My expirience with WD My Book Live 2Tb and 3Tb

dandem

iPF Noob
I bought 2Tb and next day exchange it for 3Tb simply because it works so well and I have decided to move all my files over
and have my personal cloud 3Tb :)

Setup was very easy, it works with all apps supporting WebDav like (office 2 HD, Polaris Office, Pages, Notes, .....)

#1 change your admin password
#2 after you have done with WD get a free account with freedns or similar service,
check your router which one is supported. This is for accessing your WD trough WebDav.

Port forwarding, I found it works better for me when WD is in DMZ zone and 8080 ports for http and 8443 for https protocols.

To work with WD I found the following apps
#1 WD2 GO - free app (so crazy you can rename and delete folder but can't create them) access files from anywhere
also you can send a lint to your file via email like DropBox or Box very cool.
#2 My WebDav - free app (will let you for with files and folders)
#3 GoodReader - not a free app but you get more #2 plus much more other things.
#4 Polaris Office biggest + it opens file on the server side so file has only one copy.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Where do u get the URL from wd2 go?

I put this URL for webdav, it says method is not allowed.
http://MyBookLive.device123456.wd2go.com

sorry I din't get it right,
you have to check your router for DNS services support like freeDNS.com,
this service will translate your address like myWD.selpip.com to dynamic IP address.

Next step,
make sure you have all required ports open, in my example 8080 and 8443

and URL for MyWebDav will be
http://dnsserviceaccount:8080/wduseraccount/

https//dnsserviceaccount:8443/wduseraccount/

let me know if you still have a questions..

Sorry but I cannot follow this conversation- I need to be able to download from email my resume, revise, and upload to email and the web.
Can someone please explain how to do this - you know- like "the Dummies Guide to..."
Thanks!

Very simple:
Download from email:
Open attached file in QuickOffice or any other Office Editor. I'm using Polaris Office
Revise, Save it.

Upload:
From the Office You can send it as an attachment. Polaris Has an email icon to click then you check file or files and click send button will create email with attachment(s)
If you need to upload it trough some Web Form you have to jailbreak your ipad and install tweak called Safari Upload Enabler from Cydia this will enable upload functionality.

I think that is a whole separate discussion not relating to the topic of this thread. Maybe ask a mod to move your post to it's own thread with its own heading to get the right attention.

A little more information as to where these files are, what format they are in (word, PDF, etc.), and where you want to upload them to.
