my ipad is not automatically syncing..why?

please help

my iPad 3g always used to automatically go to sync mode when I hooked it up to my MAC. However it just stopped doing it - when I go to itunes the folder list on the left (which used to show whatever device I had hooked up} is showing nothing. Same thing with my iphone and itouch.

have I inadvertently turned off automatic sync? how do I fix this?
appreciate any help you guys can offer up!

Uncheck "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from synching automatically"

I found it and unchecked it - but strangely - still no automatic sync coming up. should I shut down and restart?

I also downloaded the newer itunes software, that caused a restart and now I am smokin' again!
