I have several folders and links in the bookmarks bar on my iPad 4, but I awlays wanted Safari to have a cleaner look. I found that I could go to Settings > Safari > General and turn off "Always Show Bookmarks Bar". This restores a small bit of the browser window but it requires me to perform a few more steps when trying to access an existing bookmark.
Well, today I found that, even when the bookmarks bar is hidden, I could tap the URL field and the bookmarks bar will drop down into view.
That was genius! Thanks, Apple!
