New comp, losing vids and photos

Got rid of an old desktop that had my iTunes that the iPad and iTouch synced to. Now with my laptop trying to upgrade to new OS I lost photos taken on the iPad 2. How can I keep that from happening on the iTouch? Is there any way to upload them to my pc before syncing in iTunes?
