New iPad owner,a very dummy one

hi,my name is Doris and I am in Wickenburg,Az. ( winters only)up in B.C. Canada summers.
I am finding the learning curve for this tablet a slow and difficult time (I,e, my User guide all of a sudden switched to Russian,no reason) .I have a Nook Color tablet, and found it much easier to learn. I hope to learn a lot from this Forum.
