Here's a tip

Double press the home key, where it then displays the apps, press and hold one, then you can close the apps running in the background, you will be surprised how many are running

so sorry but complete newbie where is the home key - aaagh runs for the hills at asking such a daft question but honest I dont know (THANKS)

It's the button you press with small square on it.
