I spent 8 hours entering my contacts only to have them disappear the next day when I started entering another one. Has anyone else had this problem?
thanks for letting me ask.

Yes. It crops up every once in a while, mostly when you have a lot of contacts.

My recommendation is to keep your contacts synced with an online service like Google. You can do this by setting up your Google account on the iPad as an Exchange account, instead of the default GMail one. Here are the instructions.

Setting up Google Sync with your iOS device : Mail, Calendar, & Contacts - Google Mobile Help

Google also has the ability to import contacts via .csv or vCard, which may save you a lot of typing if you have your contacts in another database and can export to one of those formats.

Good to hear from you. You’ll find a whole bunch of iPad enthusiasts in this Forum who are only too willing to help other iPad owners and to hear of their experiences. Don’t be afraid to post any questions you may have or use the ‘Search’ button near the top of the Forum web page. I usually find I discover one new interesting and useful piece of information about my iPad every day - and often not even what I was looking for!!

Hope to hear from you soon with your thoughts about the iPad.

Have fun and enjoy your iPad

If you don’t already have it you can download a copy of the iPad manual for free.

I followed the instructions mentioned in the link, deleted the contacts on my ipad like they say not to have doubles and now i dont have any contacts on my ipad anymore and not on Google contacts
No problemi thoughed, i will sync with the backup on my pc, but all my contacts are gone now.
I had no problems, but did this to have a backup, now i have nothing and i had a lot of notes in these contacts that i cant remember now.
Whats the point of having a backup on your pc if i cant retrieve it ?

Any suggestions of what to do now ?

Sorry you had problems. When syncing anything for the first time you have to carefully keep in mind what is in each database when choosing Keep, Merge, or Delete options. I'm guessing Google Contacts was empty when you first synced, so when you chose to Delete the local contacts you essentially cose to sync with an empty database.

I'm glad the recovery was not too painful. If you had a recent backup of the iPad you could have tried restoring it from that backup. Same for the computer.

In the first place, it was all my fault, shouldnt have deleted the contacts on the ipad to avoid doubles, i simply misunderstood.
l had a recent backup on the pc, l do that twice a week.I connected the Ipad and synced but my contacts stayed empty on the Ipad and I dont know why. Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks for your reply

You need to either sync with the Google account you set up, or the computer. Don't do both. It will cause problems.

Chances are that when you synced with Google, iTunes detected that and changed your settings under the iTunes Info page to stop the direct computer syncing.

I thought you said you got the contacts back on the iPad and they were now syncing with Google. Did I misunderstand?

I got the contacts back on the Ipad, but manually typing them all in.
On the pc I export the google csv file to my hard disc on the laptop and keep it there, thats all.
When my contacts were deleted, then i connected to my pc hoping i would have my contacts back, but nothing was restored. Thats why I ask myself, why do I backup if afterwards i cant retrieve those contacts from my pc.
My guess is, it was synced and not restored. So the Itunes pc backup sees that the contacts on my Ipad are deleted, so it deletes it on my pc, right?

So, how can i restore something before it starts to sync.

I hope I a m clear
