News app not working

Force close the app, maybe that will help. To force close, double tap the Home button to show the App Switcher, then slide the thumbnail towards the top of the screen.

It's also possible that the app needs a few minutes to load the news. That has happened to someone else, using an iPad 2. Wait for about 10 minutes, maybe that'll help in your case too.
