I was going to buy the 3G/4G version just because I figured they would do it the same way the iPad did, meaning that the Wi-Fi only would not have GPS built in. But luckily, the $600 Wi-Fi only version will have GPS, so I'll be getting that one.

A US$600 Wifi only Xoom is doable for me too. My interest in getting one is academic and greedy--I want to acquaint myself with Android--and see what all the fuss is about. Secondly, if Motorola (MMI) can sell half as many units as Apple, I hope the Xoom will do for Motorola what the iPad did for Aplle's bottom-line.

So for $600...how many gb will it be? 32?

That seems to be the assumption. There is also a SD card slot in the unit so your actual total storage will be quite a bit more than that. I had heard some reports that the SD card slot isn't functioning yet, but I'm not sure if that is true or not. I hope we start seeing some reviews soon.

Yes, 32GB, expandable by as much as you want via micro SD cards.

Here is a question. Have you heard how Honeycomb handles SD cards? I know in the phone version of Android the SD card is mounted as /sdcard/sdcard so it can only be used to store files. You cannot use the external SD card as application storage. While that would be good enough for 99.99% of the people out there I suppose, it would be cool if the external storage could be used just like internal storage. If you could use the SD card in such a way, it would seem that a 8GB base model would be plenty for most people and cheaper as well.

As of Android version 2.2 (Froyo) apps can be installed to the SD card as long as the app has that option built in, I haven't found an app yet that doesn't give me the option to install to the SD card. I'm sure they are out there, but I'm not the type to download experimental crazy apps I've never heard of, I normally get apps that I hear about from major websites.

32 gb is the largest microsd card available...so if it has 32gb hard wired, then it is expandable to 64gb....but sd cards (even the fastest most expensive ones) are MUCH slower than inboard solid state...so access speed can be a major issue..

I've got movies, apps, photos, and music on my 16GB class 4 card and I have had zero lag issues while doing any operation.

Good luck finding another over a class 2 32GB micro SD card....also, understand that any reputable company like Sandisk and Kingston don't even make Microsd cards larger than 16GB and they are all class 2.

Wow, just read all 5 pages. We need to chill out. People taking the stuff personal. I luv my ipad but by far not an applefanboy. I like android also but not a fanboy there either. I like the ability to control n use whatever OS is thrown at me. I hope the Xoom does well because i want to read the reviews on it. Competition only makes products better. Aplle will have to step up the game. To clarify things, the speculated ipad2 specs are right on par with Xoom specs minus the extra ports n flash. Ipad3 is already being talked up to release as soon as sept 2011. Where will the xoom be then? Ipad 1 gonna hold its on because of the support. Ipad2 will definitely be better and on a more level playing field with Xoom. If ipad3 does release september, u know its gonna be a major update and overall of the device and will more thn likely greatly surpass Xoom, specwise. I cant lie though, i love reading all this tablet beef ;-) im a tech head for sure.
As far as flash, doesnt matter really. People just mad they wont be able to load up their fav. Porno sites which mostly use flash video..lmao. When first contimplating getting my ipad, i thght not havin flash would be a major downfall n annoyance for me. Ive realized since i got the ioad in july, that i dont need it ;-)

Why would they come out with a iPad 3 basically months after the iPad 2?

Because Apple originally wanted ipad2 to have retina display. But at the present time, there is no way to manufacture enough of those screens at an acceptable price. Remember how iphone came out, then 3g, then 3gs, n now iphone 4? ipad 2 is more of an incremental release, like hkw the iphone 3g went to 3gs. Its gonna have some new stuff n feautures but not a completely new overhaul. Ipad 3 will be that. Everything is rumor right now but well known sources who predicted iphone 4 specs n release said the same about ipad3. I know it sounds crazy to release ipad3 only months after ipad2 but i woukdnt be surprised. Iphone4 juss came out and theres already talk from apple of a new iphone5 being released this summer.
With all these new Android tablets coming out that are good, apple wont let ipad fall behind spec n feature wise. Ipad 1 will hold its own against xoom until ipad2 drops. Once ipad2 drops, it will be even playing field or surpass Xoom, spec wise. Then ipad3 will blow everything away..lmao. Ipad 2 already confirmed from concrete sources to have 2 cams, faster dual core processor, and sd card slot and another mysterious slot not figured out yet. The tablet war is getting good. Im still using my ioad like its brand new and still finding more n more uses. Tablets that will be better will blow everyones minds. I neverrr use a reg. Pc anymore since i got my ipad. My ipad does all computing needs i need done. Cant wait to see whats coming out, tablet wise, which is right around the corner. Stay tuned..lol

I like the look of the xoom, and the fact that at some point flash will be in it! But it seems a lil too small, I like the screen size of the ipad, just makes it easier to read webpages and watch movies on.

Oh and yes, some people on here get way too personal, thought they get banned for that, but I guess only I get yelled at for getting personal lol
