Not receiving emails while using cellular

I'm new to iPads, and so far love my iPad 3. However, when I'm out of range of (or have disabled) wi-fi, and I'm using a cellular connection, I recive no email. No other trouble accessing the Internet using cellular. As soon as I re-enable wi-fi, I can send and receive emails.
