Can someone help me? I have grey hair and very little grey matter and cannot get my notifications to work. They are all switched on and when I assign a specific tune it plays but nothing happens when the alert opens ie with Skype just a message saying incoming call and a red star on my message icon with the number of emails received.. The sound is on to max and mute is off. Help

Please don't be offended by my question but, are you sure that Mute is off? Mute can be controlled by one of two switches - and which activates the mute function is re-assignable. So it could be the 'hard' switch next to the volume control or it could be soft switch at the far left of the multi-task bar.
