Odd phone icon on Mail icon

This has appeared on a friend’s iPad (iOS 12.6)and iPhone (iOS 14.5)
Anyone know what it means.

That means the app is used on another iDevice with the same iCloud ID.

Use Handoff to continue tasks on your other devices - Apple Support

With Handoff, you can start work on one device, then switch to another nearby device and pick up where you left off.
