Just bought an iPad Air from the PC World, sales guy was adamant it needed anti virus software, just a well I read the forums as this is absolutely wrong! isn't it?

Sounds like the salesman has been selling lots of PCs and not enough iPads. Yes, the salesman was wrong and doesn't know what he's talking about. There are no known viruses that can infect a stock iPad. The lack of a need for virus protection is shown most clearly in the AppStore where there are no anti virus apps.
