Hi Lorain--welcome to the Forum!
Have a look at this from Apple: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236 syncing photos using iTunes.
If there aren't many pictures to transfer there are other methods you can transfer your photos to your iPad. You can use the Dropbox app and drop photos into a file in Dropbox on your PC and then open your drop box app on your iPad to access your pics. From there, you can save to your camera roll.
Another way to just to email the pics to yourself.
So as you can see, there are many different ways to do this. Have fun!
