Pros and cons of the ipad mini

Just got one this weekend and haven't been able to put it down. My only regret is I didn't buy one sooner. Lack of retina display doesn't bother me, I have a hard time distinguishing between resolution qualities anyway, unless they are way off.

Pros:

Incredible build material/design
Portable, comfortable to use
Lots of tablet apps
Smooth performance
Good camera quality
Excellent battery life

Cons:
Low resolution screen

The pros outweigh the cons obviously, but the screen is just OK. I mean, it's better than most tablet screens out there but it would be nice to have the clarity of a retina ipad or Nexus 10. Heck, even my old Nexus 7 screen is much better than this. But again, I have no other complaints about this tablet.

One of the biggest cons is reception of wifi hotspots when away from home. When placed next to each other my macbook pro sees far more hotspots than my ipad mini which defeats the object of why i purchased the mini - to use internet away from home.

I love my iPad mini and I used for everything except games, budgeting and finance, word processing, surfing, emails, photography and many more. It lives in my bag and I take it with me everywhere. Wifi reception is extremely strong, and I am not sure why others having problems. For example using SpeedTest X HD, and I have 30MB fibre optic connection connected to a wireless router, and I get speed of around 24MB on the iPad mini and and sitting 2 rooms away from the router divided by 2 solid walls. Finally, getting an Ipad for 10 years old is an over kill in my opinion, I got mine a £50 Android tablet. Does everything a kid wants and if he smashes it, I won't cry as I can afford him a new one :-) but is only my opinion :-)

I love my mini. Bought one on a whim at the airport from a best buy vending machine and haven't been able to put it down since purchase. I don't mind the non-retina display at all, it's super light, great battery, and easy to use. No matter how cool the big iPad gets, it's just way to big for me.

Mini is totally worth it. I swear its lighter than my iPhone 5.

You bought a mini in an airport from a best buy vending machine? Wow. :)

All I asked was for info on the mini......

Lol......see what you started! :D

I'm thinking it was that Title you chose, everyone just ran with it.....and it shows its a topic everyone wants to discuss!

Isn't the mini just great!

No we can talk about the mini all day just don't need someone telling its over kill for my kiddo .... She loves the mini! Takes it everywhere we go!

Different strokes for different folks......I'm with you and would rather get my child the best! :O

Which is why all 3 of mine got one for Christmas! ;). Although mine are older.....they got their ipods at that age, but then that's all that was on offer back then!

I hope she had a great birthday!

The mini will carry well in a back pack, I sneak it in to work in a lunch box. Put that mini in an Otter box, or like hard shell protective cover and you have one nice machine!

She did she loves the mini... In fact I wish I'd gotten me a mini instead of the iPad 4 lol!

I have the mini and I love it.....my iPad 2 weighs like a brick in comparison. The mini is just so easy to carry around!

I plan on getting the 5 when it's released though......the larger screen is much better for me for more serious work!

But then if my eyesight was better, I would just stick with the mini also! ;)

I'm starting to understand the weight comparison between my iPad 2 and the mini! It's such a treat to use the mini--especially when reading flipboard, tumblir, or playing games. However, I still like my iPad when coming onto this forum! The screen is bigger and more forgiving! Love both in different ways! :)

i've had the mini for about a month. trying to see if it can replace my laptop -which for unknown reasons started giving me timeouts when downloading websites (after a year of no problems). have the WIFI hotspot device from ATT. so far, so good. i specifically did not want the Retina screen after reading about it being a battery hog, and that the high resolution used up much, much more data. since my ATT monthly bill is data useage dependent, that was an issue with me. am surprised no one else has mentioned it?? Has anyone compared data useage for retina screen VS non-retina?

My Ipad Mini arrived today. Sold my Ipad 3 last week. For the last couple months I had been playing with the ipad mini at the Apple store and I absolutely enjoyed it. Now that I own one (I used the money that I got from my Ipad 3 to get it). Just love it. The screen is perfect, the fact that it's non-retina does not bother me at all. It's such a cute device. I named it MrMcMini :)
