Question about gifting an itunes gift card to someone by email

Does the email address I send it to need to match the email address of the recipients itunes account or can I send it to any email address? For example, can I send it to their work email address even if their itunes account is linked to their personal email address?

Also, can I include a personal message in the email that they receive?

You can send the gift card to any email address that's used by the recipient, and it's possible to include a message.

The person who receives your gift card can redeem it when he/she is using the iPad, using the Redeem button in the email he/she receives. No matter which email account is used as Apple ID, the amount of the gift card will be used for the one installed on the iPad.
