Removing uploaded photos from ipad?

I bought the camera connection kit so I can use my ipad to back up my photos when I'm in the field. How do I get these raw photos off the ipad and onto my computer without importing them into iphoto?

Import them directly to your desktop via Finder. Open the disk image that mounts and simply drag the pics from the folder named DCIM (or similar) to wherever you want them.
