Restore not successful and ipad not accessible

Hi
I have an ipad2 with IOS 7.1.1. I was trying to restore the software and I got a message that the restore was not successful. the system recommended rebooting both the device and the computer. Now itunes wll not detect the ipad and the ipad will not switch on, all i get on the screen is a blue itunes logo and a pic og the connection cord. any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks for this, however my device is in the recovery mode but itunes will not detect it, to allow me to restore. any ideas?
