Rotation lock

Can't seem to get my rotation lock to turn off. Under settings it shows the side switch set to mute. But the little rotation lock icon shows up in the upper right hand corner next to battery life. Anybody have a clue how to get it to turn off?

Not sure if this is same for ipad1, but on iPad2 you dbl-click the home button to bring up the bottom scroll bar. Then you go to the scroll left-to-right where there's a rotation-lock option.
