According to Taiwan’s Economic Daily News, the third instalment in Apple’s iPad mini range will be 30% thinner than the second-gen iPad mini, and will have Apple’s new A8 processor.
MacRumors does not seem to be that convinced about this particular rumour from Apple’s supply chain, saying that trimming the thickness of the iPad mini by 30% would reduce it to approximately 5.25 mm, which would be very difficult to achieve.
The third-generation iPad mini is expected to launch later this year, most likely some time after the iPhone 6 launch in September. Other recent rumours about the forthcoming iPad mini include the possibility that it will have a more durable Touch ID fingerprint sensor made with tin.
MacRumors says that the iPad mini is also expected to support the new iOS 8 SDK that gives third-party developers access to the fingerprint scanner to use its verification features in their apps.
