Safari is out of control - help...

New iPda 2 Air (my wife's ) when she opens Safari, there is a sidebar menu like a drop-down, but we can't make it go away. I cannot find a clear manual or PDF that discusses Safari in sufficient detail to anwser this question. What am I missing? Thanks.

Tap the book icon at the top left, next to the address bar/search bar, it will make the sidebar disappear.

It worked, thanks. Though we had tried that - just too many "tappies" in Safari (I am more of a a FireFox type...)
