What's new

Save As . . .

Is there a tool, hack, addon, other what have you for a jailbroken iPad that adds a Save As command to things like Pages, for example?

I would find it quite useful to be able to save the item to a specific folder in the file system.

If not, that's fine.

I would be interested in this as well. Every once in a while ill see an app i want to download for my Galaxy S while im on my ipad and i want to save it into my dropbox but cant figure out how to do it.

iFiles allows you to download links, but only to the iFiles folder. You can then plug your iPad into your computer and transfer over (Go to Apps under iPad, then scroll down and click on iFiles under Applications). Still, better than nothing.

You can even do it non jailbroken with GoodReader or Atomic Browser.

OK, Bob is a confirmed dummy that is just too dumb for words.

Here is what I want. I took a look at Good Reader and apparently, it does not do what I want.

Here is a typical scenario:

I turn on the iPad, click Pages, and the program opens. I create a new document, write some bad English, and I want to save it. Pages does this automatically.

What I really want is to see a little icon in Pages (and other programs) that when selected, brings up the file system --in this case, iFile and a MicroSD card) and save the file, using my fine name, to a specific folder on my card.

Just like when you open MS Word, create a new document, and when saved, Word askes what name and where.

Apparently, Good Reader will not do this. But I am clueless, occasionally skip through documentation and I might be wrong. I'll accept my inattention, and I will look for GR and give it a go. Perhaps the GR way is acceptable.

I am not so sure it is better than nothing. But thanks for the comment. I am not ignoring anything in this thread; it is digging through the forums I learned of iFile and it saved me.

I want iPad autonomy. No iTunes, no file transfer, no USB cables... just a plug-in or add-on or tweak or helper app that adds a "Save As..." button to apps on my iPad.

Create in iPad and save where I want to save in iPad. Open a document from my SD card, create folders, and then save the file in its original location or a revision in a new location and/or a new folder.

Mr. Apple? Perhaps you can ask Mr. Ballmer how to do this? (Smiley)

I do not want the iPad to be great for doing stuff, just as long as you have a way to sync. Not supposed to be that way.

LOL . . . I wonder what would be said if Apple's new computers required syncing to a second device to do routine things like file maintenance? I mean, as it is now, to use an iPad, you need a PC/Mac. So the analogue in the PC/Mac world would require a second device bedsides your computer.
