Quitting the apps has fully removed them from the working memory (RAM) of your iPad. This can be desirable for several reasons, but in the normal scheme of things most "normal" users don't bother. IOS memory management is actually pretty efficient these days. It can make a big difference if you browse lots of websites, complex pages, and like to keep a lot of tabs open at the same time. Quitting all other apps, before you launch the browser in that scenario is quite beneficial. It's also more beneficial for iPad1, and to some extent iPad2 owners who have less RAM in the devices, and so freeing up as much RAM as possible is desirable sometimes.

The "task switcher" (the rows of icons you reveal by double tapping the home button) doesn't only show you apps that are running. It shows you apps which have previously been running. i.e. it is also a list of "recent apps". So, even when you have fully exited from all apps, the list will still contain those apps, since they were the most recently used.

There are several tweaks which modify this behaviour, so you can have only apps which are currently running / or multi-tasked paused in the list. One such tweak which has these options is SwitcherMod.
Springtomize also has these options, but sometimes doesn't play so nice on the iPad.

Hope that helps.

Let me see if i can download this pic, i have been trying to figure out sbsettings, but that 248mb freaks me out, if i open a few aps it goes under 100. Plz remember i am a noobie to JB aps., and i am just trying to figure it out. BTW i think evasi0n caused the power outage in new orleans. (joke)

Yes, that sounds about right. Nothing wrong with those figures.
Why are you getting freaked out?
The more Apps you open, the more RAM you use. When you close them down it frees up the RAM again. Remember, RAM is not the same as the storage space on your iPad. It is completely different. It is the working memory of the computer inside the device.

Before you could see the number you were completely oblivious to it, so why does it bother you now you can see it? As I said before, IOS has really good memory management. There isn't a rule where you need to keep as much of it free as possible, except in the rare cases like I pointed out above.

Hi,
And thank you again, sorry i forgot the f in my last post. So i am ok, you told me to ask if i had questions about sbsettings, so i did. You all have been so great, i have printed instructions for DFU for dummies and your thread about restoring. Of course i am nervous, I don,t want to be the one that mucks it up like you said in one of your posts. I probably will. I have noone to rely on but you all, and i have a few friends wIting to see what i do, or mess up.
Thanks again for all your help

Hi Wench,

I saw you asked how to quote. You click on the little blue V in the text you want to quote. Three more buttons will be displayed, Share, Report, and
Quote.
