Hi scifan, right thanks for that info, I was convinced it hadn't even been taken apart, but couldn't figure out how it had been done. No Apple didn't do it, I sent it away to a specialist company. thanks againThe cover glass and LCD screen are separate components, which explains how the faulty screen can be replaced while the same cover glass with the screen protector is still there. While heat is required to release the adhesive holding the cover glass, there's not enough heat used to melt a screen protector. A properly done screen replacement should not leave any evidence that the iPad has been opened. BTW, was the repair done by Apple?
