I can't send email from my ipad Air. I am told to go to settings and check that my user name and password are valid. I do do and they are.

Hello and welcome to the forum! :) Please provide further information: 1) Did you just update to iOS 7.1?; 2) If so, did your email work before the update?; 3) Do you have more that one account and is one or more affected?; and 4) What email service are you using (e.g. Yahoo, Gmail, other or more than one)? Let us know this information and further recommendations will be easier to suggest - Dave

I did just update to iOS 7.1, but I had the same problem before the update. This only happens with my Optimum email account. There is no issue with my Gmail. Thanks very much.

Hello! Welcome to iPF! Enjoy your time here!

You can try the following things

1. Log out and then log in into your Optimum account.

2. If this does not work, try doing a hard reset.

HARD RESET : Press and hold the home and power button simultaneously for about 10-20 seconds until the Apple logo appears. You will NOT loose any data. This solves most of the apps working abnormally.

Hi, lowreed, and welcome!

If you can't send emails, maybe there's a problem with your SMTP settings. Did you set up the account as POP or IMAP account?
Go to Settings - Mails, Contacts, Calendars and tap your Optimum account. In "Account", tap your email address. Now look for "Outgoing Mail Server"/SMTP, tap it and look at your settings. Make sure that Port 587 is enabled there, and "Use SSL" is turned off.

Some email accounts allow to send emails through another email account. If Optimum still has problems sending emails, try to choose your Gmail account as primary server to send emails.

I'm having the same problem with my Mail account since upgrading to the iPad Air. My settings are the same as my wife's and hers works; mine don't and have not since I got the new iPad. I restored all my settings from a backup from my original iPad 1. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with my adding an iCloud account in the Mail App? My provider is Comcast and I also use the Comcast XFinity App for email but frequently when filling out forms an email reply will default to the Mail App. Very puzzling.

Perform the steps in J.A.'s useful post. If it does not help, you can try a hard reset.

The hard reset does not help. I do that regularly to free up memory. I did delete my account and set it up exactly as my wife's account. Didn't work. However, I solved the basic problem by setting "Default Account" to my iCloud account. That works. I still think the problem I've had stems from using iCloud but I've managed to work around it now.
