What's new

Siri for ipad 2!

I looked up this Siri app and apparently they are pulling the plug on the 15th October to coincide with the 4S. It is to do with their servers. Does this mean that if you have an incredible app and Apple take an interest in it and buy it, it will get pulled when it is put into the new phone? I know they have improved on it but at least let the older devices have access to the original app. Any thoughts on this?

The old app is a poor example of the technology. They cannot afford to support it, and it's really nothing like what's shipping.

I thought so but it doesn't stop me wanting it. I have iPhone 4 and no money to update. I am trying out dragon but it's not nearly as good. Sigh!

i know people that is working on it, waiting on the new hardware release to see if anything shows up. It was ported to an iPod touch(with hiccups).

Really? I've got a Somerset cross south African accent and it understands me! Maybe its how you roll those vowels? I've been playing with it all afternoon. Yes, I am that sad! I've been emailing Karma and she's got it now and is emailing me now. She didn't realise you can use it on the iPad original.
Not as good as Siri but for those of us not getting it, it's a close second. How long did you try it out?

I think Siri is actually more practical on the iPad than the iPhone. I don't have an iPhone, but I can't imagine using Siri in public. Maybe the social stigma will change... For now though, bring Siri to my iPad 2!!

I hope they do bring out a version for the IPad being blind it would be a useful app to use. I can't find Dragon go in the UK store only a game client.

I'd like to think the now massive user base speaking out might move them, but Apple moves to their own drum. For instance and mostly unrelated, the last build of iOS 5 for iPad 1 has gestures removed! There is no good reason I can think of for that, but it does make the 2 seem more modern.

Until iPhone 4S, iOS5, and their subsequent teardowns are released, we will know little about siri and its pros/cons. It could be that it needs chip to make it work best. If so, the iPad 3 will be when the iPad gets it. Otherwise, they may decide to work the bugs out an release it as an app or iOS5 update. As for knocking Oklahoma, I have been in Washington state and was glad to leave. I do admit that the current drought and allergy problems do not make things pleasant right now, but for variety of features, I have lots of choices here. And I doubt that I would have any huge pecan trees growing in my yard on the west coast.

There is an app called Dragon Dictation which does a similar job

Hello Seadog, I haven't seen you around for ages. What's it like being a ninja?

Well, don't take my comment too seriously. It comes from someone who spent most of the first 18 years of his life in Oklahoma. And I fondly remember the pecans from our trees. But the Ouachita mountains don't exactly compare to the Cascades. In fact, apart from the prevalence of nuts, I'd have to give Washington the edge in most things. :)
