What's new

So how can I really enhance my ipad experience?

I like my ipad but fee like I use my computer more since I type much faster on it. I thought about buying the keyboard. Is there a mouse too that can control the iPad? I just feel like it would be weird to use a keyboard and have the ipad lie flat on the desk. That doesn't sound too comfortable.

Do you have trouble typing on the touch screen? I actually prefer it to the laptop keyboard. Not sure about mouses, I doubt it

I type over 100 words a minute on a computer so the ipad keyboard will automatically be a downgrade for me. I have gotten better when its vertical but the display is easier when horizontal so I never know what to do.

There are mouse apps ans bluetooth mice and bluetooth keyboard fromm zaggmate. But i dont think u can use both at the same time. But if you are using ur ipad to type u are really doing to much, unless ur a midget i dont see why anybody would want this cramped experience.

@ FatalDesain....Geezo do you like your ipad or not? LOL dang you're grouchy today

re: keyboard, I got the Zaggmate for Christmas, its a bit tight but I'm getting used to it. I chose that over the apple keyboard/doc because it packs up and travels better. So depending on your needs you could do a keyboard with stand then you have no worries about the ipad laying flat. You could also look into a case/portfolio that ramps the ipad at an angle which makes it quite easy to type on the screen keyboard.

I know how you feel. I'm a touch typist and I do better with an actual keyboard than an onscreen keyboard.

You can buy various Bluetooth keyboards or Apple's own keyboard with a dock connection so you can dock your iPad on the back of the keyboard and not only that it is connected but also that the iPad stands upright.

But a mouse? I'm not too sure of it.

The iPad was designed to be used as a touchscreen, you're mean to touch the screen, that's why it don't have a mouse pointer on screen.

Enhancing Typing

Typing is great/fast with Apple bluetooth keyboard and ZAGG/Mate. 2010-12-26_18-50-22_108.webp

So the keyboard dock that is 70 bucks......you can stand the ipad up on it? If so I may invest in it. Also anyone know if that keyboard feels good in your lap? Thanks.

Auto correct and the spacebar not always being pushed when I think it is are my main complaints with typing. It's a learning process. I can still type kind of fast on it, but I will often have to edit my posts once or twice after I post it and reread it. I think that Zagg keyboard case is pretty cool. I don't see what use a mouse could be since it's a touchscreen though.

I Think You Mis-understood what pmmartin posted...

...earlier. The picture he provided was with Apple's bluetooth keyboard using a case only Zaggmate to prop up the iPad. The case only Zaggmate is another US$69.99.

What the picture shows is a configuration that should imply that when you take your iPad out with you, you can pack it up in the Zagg case but what about the keyboard?

If you want to bring a keyboard with you but do not want to lug that large keyboard, you can get the Zaggmate with Bluetooth keyboard built in. This is what I have and it is very good--small but better for longer periods of typing.

The Zaggmate with keyboard allows you to type on your lap. You can do that with the Apple keyboard but it is cumbersome.

Here is a link to Zagg:

Here is a link to a competitor. I don't have this product but from the description, the pictures, and video, it seems like a worthy competitor to the Zaggmate with Bluetooth keyboard:

iPad Keyboard Case

I would buy this keyboard to see how it works versus Zaggmate but I cannot afford to try it out for US$149.00. I hope someone who has this Clamcase with keyboard does a review.

If you want to touch type really fast you will do better on a keyboard. I bought the Apple BT before the Zagg came out but though I'm slowed somewhat with the screen board I usually type with it and have gotten much faster with practice since last May. You really need a case or stand and I like the new stand for using in lap, bed, etc. It looks stupid LOL but works great. i leave my Ipad in my Apple case and drop into the Propup when I want. I see what you guys are saying. But for the 70 dollar apple keyboard is more in my price range. If I have the keyboard, and. Put the keyboard on my lap, will the ipad be stood up like a stand?

I Recommended more expensive solutions

because I assumed you were going to be moving around with the iPad, like I do. For example, I take this iPad to work with me to enable me to do my own personal work--without relying on work purpose only resources. So I need a case that does two things: protect my iPad in transit and when I arrive, I need a keyboard that allows me to type.

If you buy just the Apple produced keyboard and dock, are you going to leave the keyboard at home and just take the iPad? I cannot imagine taking this keyboard with me. Do you have any concern for the safety of your iPad in transit? If you do, and you want to stick with Apple, the carrying case is US$39.99.

Apple keyboard/dock: US$69.00
Apple Carrying Case: US$39.99
Total: US$108.99

My Zaggmate with keyboard: US$99.99--and I don't carry around a big bulky keyboard.

There are cheaper cases available and alternatives, i.e., skins to protect the iPad back, a screen protector. But with a moniker "the best around", I think most of us assumed your criteria was to have complete mobility with protection, and price would not be critical.

BTW, you cannot use the Apple keyboard on your lap, it is top heavy with your ipad plugged in. Your iPad plugs in portrait mode, it does not allow landscape. I just checked the specs on the Apple keyboard, it is not a blue tooth enabled keyboard so you have to plug your iPad into the dock in portrait only to use it.
