Apple announced that iTunes 11 will be deployed in November.
iTunes will always be a necessary evil until they develop a website that allows you to sync your audio, video, photos, pdfs/e-books, ringtones and podcasts. And the odds of that happening in the next decade are zero to none. The reason is simple, total storage space needed for everyone's data. Apple can't even afford to do that because the storage requirement outstrips any technology currently deployed. It is a problem that they, Amazon, Google and several other companies have been trying to solve for the last 5 years.
Until they get a holographic storage system online, the end users PC is the cheapest solution to the problem.
