The Whistle account is free and the calls are free and not to just whistle people. I think in the long run it might save you some money to use that one instead of Skype.

Wow. I could never figure out why people wanted to use Skype instead of just using their regular phones, but if Whistle is free except for data charges, I might give that a try.

You can use it connected to wifi too. The only thing you can't do is see people's faces. I guess that will come with the next generation ipad.

Yes, you can do SMS or Voice calls from iPad 3G
