Some sort of virus or phishing thing keeps popping up

Can anyone please help me. I have a grey square box that has come up on my I pad. its says " EDITED attention phone user! you have a chance to get (1) ONE exclusive reward of your choice ! please press OK to continue

I have been on to Apple support who called me back and have done the suggested `Hard reset` and reset the internet and cleared history and website data, which worked for a few minutes but the thing is back and seems to be more immune to my continued `Hard re sets`

Can anyone please tell me what I can do to get rid of this thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try putting your iPad in airplane mode, then go to Settings>Safari>Clear History and Website Data. When you turn off airplane mode Safari should be operating normally. You could also avoid the website(s) where this pop up appears.
