Sound (and voice) on iPad

I have been unable to activate any sound (if that is what I should do) on my new iPad and when there is any presentation that I try to watch such as those that I receive from PC World there is no sound. It's probably something simple that I should be doing but darned if I know. Thank you for any help that you can give me.

You may have Mute turned on, either in the multitask bar or the sides switch. It can be changed in settings.

Also check your Sound settings in the Settings app under General.
