stop mobile sites opening?

any easy way to set ipad up so that "mobile" versions of websites do not open automatically? I know some have the desktop version available by clicking a button but I find this very annoying! I assume the ipad is sending a signal of some sort along with the website request telling it to open the mobile version?

PS this happens whatever browser I use so it not just a Safari thing!

Browsers like Atomic browser or iCab can make websites believe you use a desktop browser.
