The mail application associated with the iCloud is very similar to the the mail application native to the iPad.
One very noticeable exception, however, (modest though it may be in comparison with the toolbars available on all web-based mail clients) is the toolbar that appears when composing an email using the iCloud mail application.
Apple would be doing a great (and reasonable) service for its tablet customers to incorporate this same toolbar in the mail application that comes with the iPad.
Composing emails would so much easier, and attachments could be made from files in the iWork folder or other productivity apps which store files on the iPad.
