Switching from song to list

Quite often, I will open my iPad's music app by doing a search for a particular song and selecting it.

After I've played it, I open a playlist and wish to get a random song, but unless I select a particular song, it keeps playing the song I selected, over and over again.

Is there an easy way to switch to selecting a random song from my playlist?

If I hit shuffle, and press play, the same song continues to play. What I generally do is hit shuffle, start a new song (which is at the top of my list), then hit the >> button to go to a random song. Kind of clumsy.

What happens when you first choose a song, and hit "Shuffle" when it's already playing?
