What's new

The "Anything Goes" thread

Well the small room used to be an outside toilet many many years ago , it's disused now and is being used as a laundry / work room for me :-)

How very clever and talented you are Drew.

Just love how you've remodelled those bed heads into a bench. Great thinking there!

The glitter looks lovely on that toy box......lucky kids! ;)

Then it does have the same general meaning, but over here an outhouse usually means something just big enough to close the door and sit down in. I'm pretty sure you've got a bit more room than that. :)

Ahh yes, the outhouse :-) , I certainly have a little more room than that :-)

Our house is an old council house that has a couple of small out buildings, one of which is a small ( very small ) room which was used as a toilet, there is also another larger outbuilding that is attached to it, generally I call them outhouse's but they do share common meanings across the water ( no pun intended!)
:-)

Love the picture

Ours is called the shed but yes, it is an outhouse. It was never a toilet as our cottage/house was built in the 30's and had all the mod cons for that day. Mine is also an ex-council house and is really well-built. We got rid of the old metal double glazing and haven't looked back. Real coal back boiler fireplace so cosy in winter. It does have 4 chimneys but only the one is still in use. The beauty of this place was the huge back garden and decent sized front garden. Also in a village close to work. Love my house.

Our front garden is a disaster at the moment , not worthy of a photograph, it needs a horrendous amount of work, so it can wait until the back gardens done first. Our outhouse/ buildings are thus : image-4040668693.webp image-2382019758.webp The toilet would have been the one to the right with the small window , now currently my dry wood and cardboard store, then the one to its left with the tumble dryer is the one I currently work in . It's very cold in there, so I use a small fan heater hung from a corner to take the edge off the chil while I do things. It's barely the depth of two doors, so quite limited in size , the other door to the left is just storage for our garden tools, which will one day be used as a garden toy shed and pram storage. Garden tools will eventually be in their own little shed. Sent from my iPad 3 64gb using iPF

Oh and the council have just fitted those brand new white doors to them , luckily enough I kept the old doors and will use the on my workshop, which also means I'll have to paint them white to compliment the rest of the doors .

Wow, we could do with new doors on our outside rooms. The shed door has definitely seen better days. We use this to house all the gardening equipment, my hubby's dad used to own and any paint etc... The 'dining room' was made up from old wooden windows and bits and pieces we had collected over the years. This also needs some new paintwork. We built this onto the back of the house and is very light but is now filled up with the new gazebo, and other stuff! We have a washing line strung up in here for when the weather is inclement. I feel quite lazy now after all the work you have done. Unfortunately, my hubby and I work such long hours that when we do get home, we just haven't got the energy to the necessary work. Hmmmm? I must make that my New Years resolution, you have made me feel like I haven't bothered this year. The 'summerhouse' which was built by previous owners is made up of wooden doors, windows etc... That houses the deep freezer and all horse gear and furniture not needed at the moment.

I wouldn't say fortunate for me, throughout the course of the garden work I was unemployed and was fed up & angry at doing nothing, so it was more of a means to engage with something and the opportunity presented itself timely . I have other commitments during the day these days now, so my time is tight when its spent working outside, especially with these early evenings becoming so dark , but I have to give myself something to do every day, or I lose that sense of achievement and become lethargic .

Even this afternoon I am off to resource some more free materials towards the workshop, motivation is still there even on weekends.
Don't feel bad because of what I have achieved, it's unfair to feel as though you haven't done anything, I am sure there are hundreds of things you have done , just seems gardens always take forever , I was helped by a lot of friends and had a party after as a gift to those that had helped .

Good for you! My hubby was the same when made redundant after 20+ years as the assistant manager of the local town supermarket. All the redundancy money went on just living expenses and near the end of the last pound spent, we went to the Xmas market and he was recognised and asked to be a market trader for the local bakery. He hasn't looked back. One door closes and another opens. I do wish he had been offered that job before his money disappeared. We also got hammered by the working credit as they overpaid us and now we have to pay it back!!!!! Typical. He also spent his time gardening and doing up the house.
