O.K. So now we know when the new iPhone will appear. The question is: Who is going to rush out and buy one? I would certainly like one but probably won't get one soon, the earliest would be Christmas. The initial cost is a consideration and then the high cost per month, I currently don't have a "smart phone" so I don't pay a lot for service. My wife does have iPhone 4 and in addition to initial cost, there's thirty some extra dollars a month on top of what we were paying for cell service. We would end up paying a lot for service for two phones. I would guess more than 160 a month, do others pay this much?

Not me.
I threw my phone away years ago and never regretted it.
Not contactable and happy

Hi Julie

Good for you. We never take a phone on holiday. I took the iPod to Dubai, but couldn't use Safari despite connecting to the hotel WiFi. I'm glad I couldn't, but was thankful for the world clock and calendar. When on holiday we are on holiday from home life, which includes the telephone! :)

Hmm! I disagree. My iPhone 4 is a phone but let's face it. The phone part is minor in my world. What about the iPod music, videos, ebooks apps.... Need I say more? It's a mini computer and you can put it in your pocket or purse etc... I pay £45 a month for my virtually new phone so won't be buying a new one anytime soon. I'm looking forward to all the updates that are coming with the iPhone 5.

I will get the iphone 5 in january when my current contract expires, at the moment i got the iphone 3g and cant wait to replace it. If the iphone 5 is too expensive then i will get the iphone 4 which will have a better deal when the iphone 5 comes out. Either way its january next year for me to upgrade to something better. Atm i pay £30 per month with unlimited internet and the phone was free.

OK here's a taster re Dubai. One of the metro stations is called Internet City. Microsoft, IBM and Seimens have buildings clearly visible from the train. I couldn't see Apple.

However, I liked this poster.

Other photos about to be loaded onto the Architecture thread.

Just heard that Steve Jobs dies. He was only 56. I wonder what will
this mean to Apple.

Oh my is that true, and so young. He will be a loss for Apple. I'm sure he's trained them well though to carry on.
