Most of the previous iPad Pro rumors have suggested that a larger-sized iPad would need a stylus for a better user experience. And it seems that Apple agrees with that, as well.

During the event, Apple announced the Apple Pencil accessory which can detect position, force and tilt. The device features a lightning connector, allowing users to charge it directly to their iPad. The pen can be used to annotate documents, circling items in documents, and draw shapes on PowerPoint slides.

Apple is inviting developers to make use of the Apple Pencil's capabilities, so chances are we're going to witness new apps in this direction. The Apple Pencil is going to cost $99 and will be available in November.

Another important accessory for the iPad Pro is a new $169 keyboard accessory which is integrating into a cover. The Smart Keyboard uses key domes that Apple first developed for the new MacBook and connects to the iPad Pro using a new connector type.

The Smart Keyboard won't be bundled with the iPad Pro, but will be made available as an optional add-on like like the Smart Covers that Apple has long offered for iPads.

I wish the "optional" accessories were included with the iPad Pro at time of release as the prices seem a bit steep & will be interesting to see how many pick up the whole package (Pro, stylus and keyboard)...

If they came for free, sure. An extra $200 dollars or so to the base price would be harder to swallow. I think I'm happy enough to pick whether and when I want them. Unfortunately for my budget, I do. Somewhat less unfortunately, I think I'll be satisfied to pick them up a month or two after the initial purchase. The pen first and quickly, and the keyboard somewhere down the line; provided I don't see a BlueTooth keyboard I like better in the mean time.

I'm with you, TP. I like that they are sold separately instead of as one package [that probably would cost more money].

I'm gonna get the iPad Pro and the stylus at once. Then, I'll just get the (white or space gray) Smart Cover. I don't use a keyboard so much so I can avoid getting the Smart Keyboard. But, oh that stylus ... and the iPad screen size!

Cannot wait until November. :)
