I bought a Motorola Xoom and hated Android it so returned it and plan to buy an Ipad 2(as my son suggested in the first place).
Anyway I'm also in the market for a new phone so I also am thinking of getting an iphone 4s.

I will get the ipad 2 with wi-fi only as I understand that I can use the wi-fi from the iphone when wi-fi for the ipad is not available.

I also have a pc at home so my question is-- as there is no direct USB connection between the ipad and the pc can I transfer files/pictures via w-fi with the pc? Is this a practical solution. I don't want to buy an apple computer at this point.
Thanks for any advice you may have.

Regards

Hi Fred and welcome to the Forum!

The iPad does connect to the iPad via the USB charging cable and you sync the iPad with a PC to transfer all Files/pictures/music across over wifi. You will need an app for files though. What type of files do you want on the iPad? You don't have to have a Mac as such. Hope that helps you.
