We haven’t heard much from Twitter when it comes to the iOS ecosystem, but this week the micro blogging site is looking to make up the lost time by launching a brand new music app.
Twitter confirmed on its official blog that the application will be rolled out in countries like US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. But the rest of the world has to wait. So far, we don’t have any information regarding of how long the wait will be.
The app is called Twitter #music and will allow users to log in into their Spotify of Rdio accounts in order to listen to their favorite songs and albums. Some previews are also available through the iTunes music service. The app is arranged into four major sections: Popular, Emerging, Suggested and #NowPlaying. Through the application music lovers will have the chance to find out what’s hip and what’s at the top of music charts all over the world. Users can also see what their friends are listening to and receive updates from the artists/bands they are following. Of course, users of the app can Tweet songs directly from within the software.
However the app has not been implemented in the native Twitter iOS app, but is a separate app altogether. We can’t help but wonder why Twitter made this decision and if the overall user experience wouldn’t have been amplified in the native version?
